Sunny Side Up
Book Club

Heads up, book fans! We’re a very friendly, very funny bunch of readers that meet monthly at our book club in East Bristol. Fancy joining us to talk through a set book each month?

What should I expect from the book club?

The Sunny Side Up book club is a traditional ‘book club’ – somewhere where we meet to discuss the set book for that month.

It’s absolutely not a literary affair – we’re subjectively normal people with busy lives, that have made a conscious choice to make time to read more.

Amy tries to pick books in a variety of genres; past books have included Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield, Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus, Orbital by Samantha Harvey, and Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros.

We welcome everyone to grab a got drink from the cafe (or BYO wine etc.!), whip the snacks out, and join our group of around ~10 to 15 humans to chat through the set book!

The meets last for an hour, and the session is gently guided by Amy.

We are a very inclusive book club – please do reach out to Amy on hello@sunnysideupstudio.co.uk if you have any accessibility concerns you’d like to discuss before booking your spot.

We currently meet on the last Thursday of the month at Be Weird, Be Wild, Be Wonderful in Longwell Green, East Bristol. Come and join us!

“Book club feeds my soul and love for reading.”

— Belle, book club attendee

Hosted by Amy Gerrish, The Sunny Side Up Book Club has been running since January 2024, originally in the The Curious Play Cafe on Hanham High Street.

We started with the aim of bringing good books back into the lives of adults who may have fallen out of the reading habit, creating a relaxed, friendly space for anyone willing to give the monthly read a go. With our roots in a play café, early book picks were shorter, recently published titles – perfect for busy parents juggling young children.

Now, we’ve grown into a vibrant little community, with members at all stages of life. We keep things accessible and fun – no heavy literary analysis here, promise! Our reads range from literary fiction to romantasy, sci-fi, non-fiction, and everything in between. The conversations are always lively, and often go in unexpected directions – it's Amy’s favourite night of the month.

Come and join us for a drink, book chat, and a slice of pizza – we’d love to meet you!
